The deadline for submissions for the 2007 WPGphoto club calendar has been extended as I know the first deadline was very short. The new deadline is January 7th at 5pm. Hopefully this will allow you more time to submit your photos and help us make a really great calendar which will be available for download as of January 8th. (See December 22nd news item for more details.)

Hey all, it's time once again for the WPGphoto club calendar!

WPGphoto club calendar 2007 information:
-The WPGphoto club calendar is produced by the club in order to have a locally created calendar as well as to give exposure of it's members and to bring more awareness to the club.
-All photos are taken by club members and 36 photos are used per year: 1 large photo and 2 smaller ones per month.
-The calendar was not printed last year and won't likely be this year however we still ask for commercial release for all the photos because it's always a possibility.
-You are allowed to make copies for yourself and even friends but may not distribute them for sale. You may not even charge people for the paper, ink, printing etc.

Submissions: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
-First and foremost you retain all rights to your photo(s). You only give WPGphoto the right for a one time commercial usage for the 2007 calendar (including the thumbnail on the web site). In this case, commercial release means that WPGphoto can sell the calendar with your photo in it without compensating you. If the calendar is sold publicly proceeds go to paying for the web site, events and prizes for club meetings.
-Photos must be resized to horizontal, 11x8.5 @ 200 DPI (minimum, 300 preferred) in JPF format at about 90% quality (this corresponds to about an 11 out of 12 quality in Photoshop)(no TIFF or other formats please)
-Photos should already be processed to the photographer's liking. Any type of retouching is allowed.
-You may submit up to 5 photos maximum.
-Please include your full name for credit in the calendar.
-Send your photos to submissions@wpgphoto.com and include in the text: "I hereby release commercial rights to these photos without compensation for a one time usage in the WPGphoto.com 2007 club calendar." After photos have been submitted with the release and the calendar has been released you may not revoke your release. Submissions without this release will be disregarded.

Selection process:
-Myself and the other moderators on the forum: Warren, Jay and Dave choose the best submissions that will then appear in the calendar.
-Photos of Manitoba are preferred however you may submit any photo from anytime and any location.

Finally:
-The calendar is put on the WPGphoto.com web site as of January 1, 2007 for free download by anyone.

Submissions where slow last year as the club was smaller so I'm looking forward to getting lots this year! Thanks everyone!

HUGE thanks go out to Chris and the staff at Don's Photo Portage for all their help and hospitality (including snacks!). Several members where on hand to chat about gear, general photography and give others tips as well as to buy buy buy: cameras and other accessories as well as several 8x10s and frames where snapped up by members.

Also a huge thanks to Lindsay the local Nikon Rep who was at the store to chat to all the Nikon fanatics about new cameras and gear. Lindsay and Tim, the Canon Rep (who sadly couldn't attend) where extremely generous with the free schwag which included several lens wipes, a bunch of coffee mugs, CD holders, lens wipes, pens and more so that every member in attendance walked away with something cool!

Thanks to everyone! We're already planning the next one!

Don't forget that November 21st, 2006 is our monthly meeting at the standard place and time: 7pm (6pm to join us for dinner) at the Pony Corral Downtown (444 St Mary).

This month is an image critique where we are looking for three volunteers to bring photos for critique. If you have an image that you would like help with and would like to bring to be critiqued, please contact Dan or see the Events area on the forum.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the October monthly meeting, despite having to brave a snowstorm. Although a smaller turn out due to weather all the mods made it as well as a couple of new girls. Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone, hopefully we'll have time to implement them all.

Reminder: Tonight is our monthly meeting at the Pony Corral downtown (444 St Mary) at 7pm (6pm to join us for dinner)
There is no theme for tonight's meeting so be sure to bring your newest photos as prints or on your laptops to show.

I have been given several photo cubes, donated by Sony Canada and will be giving some away as prizes tonight. (A photo cube is basically a photo frame in the form of a box with magnets that you put 4 or 6 photos in)

Don't forget that WPGphoto will be going to BOO @ the Zoo tonight! (Thursday, October 26th 2006)
Officially we will be meeting at 6:30 PM October 26th INSIDE the zoo entrance because some of us will be there earlier (5:30pm) to shoot the animals and you're welcome to join us. Well...not SHOOT them, just shoot them...you know what I mean!

Due to cloud cover that doesn't look like it will lift any time soon, the starscape shoot for tonight has been cancelled. However, several members will still be meeting at the St Boniface Cathedral at 3:30 and going to Grand Beach (West Beach area) for some landscape shots. Don't forget to dress warm!

The WPGphoto March club meeting is tonight, March 7th, 2006 at 6:30pm (you can join us at 6pm for dinner) at the Pony Corral Downtown (444 St. Mary).

Tonight's meeting will start early(6:30) to give everyone the chance to show their prints for this month's theme: "Go big (prints) or go home." No you won't be asked to leave if you didn't get the chance to bring some bigger prints but try your best to bring any larger prints you have from 8x10 and up. As usual be sure to bring your newest prints and any other fun photography related stuff.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there tonight!
